Many people have asked how to wire up a 2 speaker cabinet that can have an extension speaker cabinet usually another 2 speaker cabinet plugged into it when desired.

The big thing to consider regarding speaker installation is the power your amplifier outputs. Maybe you need some help with wiring said cabs. The cabinet is rated at 120w. When the mono stereo switch is set to mono the two 8ω speakers are wired either in series making a 16ω cab or in parallel making a 4ω cab depending on which jack you use.

In essence there are two ways to wire up a 4 speaker cabinet that both wind up with the cabinet having the same impedance as any one of the individual drivers or in other words a cabinet with four 8 ohm speakers that ends up with a total cabinet impedance of 8 ohms. A typical 4x12 cabinet is rated at 16 ohms. So if you have a 4 12 speaker cabinet and a 100w amplifier four speakers rated at 30w would be safe. This is your classic 4x12.

The most common request i get is for 2 speakers that are 12 inch in diameter 2 x 12 however this solution pertains to 2 10 s 2 15 s or any mix of sizes. Again assuming we re using the same 8 ohm 50w guitar speaker cabinets the impedance of the cabinet is 2 ohms 8 4 2 and the power handling is 50w x 4 or 200w. The two main methods of arriving at this means are as follows. If the amp is rated for 100w the cabinet should be able to accept more than 100w for safe operation.
